It’s true. This is going to sound like a total first world problem and I feel awful for even thinking about this, but something needs to be said.
I need coffee in the morning. If not for the caffeine, definitely for the morning routine to let myself know that it’s time to get a-movin’! I’m usually fine with a simple cup of coffee that was made at home or at work, but when I know I have an especially crazy or hectic day ahead of me, Starbucks is my little gift to myself to help me make it through with a smile.
Unfortunately, my usual Starbucks has been a real letdown lately. This morning, for instance, my vanilla latte tastes like the lid fell off of the vanilla syrup and some excess syrup made it’s way into my cup. It’s really unfortunate, but it happens. I’m not that mad about that.
Here’s some of my real problems with Starbucks though. I’m not sure if it’s mine or all Starbucks, but here it is: I like multigrain bagels. When I get a multigrain bagels, I like to make it really healthy with a bunch of butter slathered on it. Starbucks likes to put the butter in the bag with the warm, toasted bagel. Are you familiar with what warmth does to butter? I’m sure you are, but Starbucks is not. I got to work and there was butter dripping from the bag. Oh man. I’ve learned to take the butter out when they hand me my bag o’ bagel, but you would think they would think about these things.
Additionally, I am lucky to be near a Starbucks with a drive through. I don’t use it unless the line is really short. Lately, I’ve been avoiding it because it just makes me so mad! When you stick your hand out of your window to reach for your cup of coffee – and I mean that your hand is outstretched and open – the barista just kind of barely lifts the coffee over the lip of the window and sets it on a ledge then holds her hand out for money.
I’m not usually one to make a big stink about things, so I may just try some passive-aggressive move the next time I go and am not in a rush. Maybe just sit in my car and stare at the cup of coffee until they pick it up and hand it to me.
You can probably guess that when I worked in retail in high school I would get so irritated when someone would slide me the money on the counter instead of picking it up and handing it to me.
Also, the last two times I ordered a bagel, they gave me cream cheese instead of butter. And the time before that, I watched 4 cars who ordered after me get their coffee and food and pull away.
First world problems, right? I’m going to go make a real cup of coffee and eat a donut instead.
