The fiancé has this mission: to get me to watch movies. The old ones, the new ones, the classics. I’m not one to really watch a movie. They usually act like lullabies and put me to sleep very quickly. When they don’t, I have a really hard time sitting still for that long.
Anyhow, the other day I took it upon myself to watch Tom Cruise in Top Gun. I’ve never really been much of a Tom Cruise fan. (He and Tom Brady are about on the same level in my books – the bottom.)
The fiancé was proud. “It’s a great movie,” he said. “It’s one of the best movies of its time,” he said.
The first time I tried to watch it, I fell asleep before they even made it to their first flight class.
The second time I tried to watch it, I struggled to even pay attention, but I made it through.
I was unimpressed. For a while I couldn’t even understand why I didn’t like it.
Last night it dawned on me.
There are too many storylines and there is not one that evokes emotion. Sure the girl turned him down once, but the next time he asked her out she said yes. There was barely any mourning where there should have been mourning. As for the competition between Iceman and Maverick, my sister and I had worse fights when we were 3 and 10.
Anyone else utterly disappointed by this movie?
Also, I am really proud of Katie Holmes for leaving that man.
