I am not a vegetarian. I never could be. I often crave a nice steak because they are one of the most delicious things on this planet. Gravy is better, of course.
But here’s the question of the holiday: Popcorn or Caramel.
Every year the White House picks a national turkey that gets pardoned and therefore does not get gutted, stuffed with bread, and shoved in the oven. It’s precious, really.
This year, however, there is a contest to determine which turkey should be granted the National Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon. That’s right, people get to choose who gets to live: Popcorn or Caramel.
It’s the second year in a row that the White House is using voting to determine the destiny of Tom Turkey. The turkeys have profiles on the White House website and the people of the United States can vote on Facebook and show their loyalty on Twitter by using #TeamPopcorn or #TeamCaramel.
This makes me wonder two things.
1. Is this a little cruel? The White House does say that both Turkeys will live, but choosing which one actually receives the pardon seems a little cold-hearted.
2. Are we going to be casting our votes for the next presidential election on Facebook in 2016?
