Who have I become? There’s a chance I am not the real me, but in fact a financially thrifty clone of Nicole.
Yesterday I needed to stop by Target to pick up an 8-quart pot and some dish towels. So I did. I walked in. Compared pots. Picked one. Grabbed a pack of hand towels. Walked through the shoe and women’s department, decided that I didn’t need anything and – Wait! WHAT?! I just walked out of Target without buying anything I didn’t intend to buy. That’s most definitely a first.
It took me a little bit to make this realization. I was picking a check out line when it hit me.
So, I decided to reward myself with a little Starbucks.
But then I thought “Nicole, you haven’t had Starbucks lately and the last time you had it, it bothered your stomach. You just bought that half caff. Have a cup at home.”
And I did.
Then it was my turn at the checkout. It seems I not only bought just what I needed, I spent less than $100 at Target. Better: less than $50 at Target.
Question: Who am I?
Evidence: 1. I only bought what I needed. 2. I spent less than $50. 3. I said “no” to Starbucks.
Answer: I don’t know who I am any more. But, I guess these are all good things. Right??
