I have to be quite honest. My work has made me quite sour as of late. Aside from the somewhat unique situation my office is going through currently, the mundane daily stuff – like constantly getting yelled at by patients who don’t understand why they are getting bills from their medical providers – has worn me down and made me cynical.
There’s a doctor who is renting some office space at my job’s satellite office once a week. When his secretary first carved out her little corner of the office, she called a lot. She was asking for things and she didn’t seem very polite.
I met her today.
She’s really nice.
She’s older – nearing 80 – so all those times when I thought she was yelling at me…well, she was just talking loudly because she’s a little hard of hearing.
To be quite honest, she’s actually pretty cool. She had lots of stories and she’s a tough cookie.
The doctor for whom she works (who is also in his 80’s) stopped by the office. They sat there in the middle of the office talking about their sex life and how it’s super important to practice safe sex. Apparently, they have this or similar conversations often.
This 80-year-old guy is dating 50-year-old women! I feel like he needs to be the subject of a TV series. The two of them had me in stitches.
I hope you kids take this as a lesson – or many lessons for that matter.
- Don’t let your job make you cynical or judgmental of others.
- You really cannot judge a book by its cover.
- Safe sex is really important at any age.
