Did you know that there is a correct way to staple a paper, according to MLA format. I once had an English professor tell us that she was a stickler for MLA format – all the way down to the staples.
I thought to myself “What?!?! There’s a correct way to staple the paper? English professors are crazy!”
I did some research and as it turns out, the staple should be in the top left corner at a 45 degree to the top and side of the page. Like this: /.
For a long time, I thought this was madness. But! I was wrong. As I’ve moved along in my professional career I realized that not all people staple papers the same way. Some people staple like this: \. When you staple that way, pages rip when you fold them up!!
My epiphany: the staple rule makes so much so much so much sense.
