After leaving to move halfway across the country 37 days ago, our move is nearly complete.
We reached Denver on Wednesday after we left; that’s a day before we were scheduled to arrive. But, people in Colorado generally seem to be much friendlier than people in the DMV so the rental office let us move in a little earlier.
Thursday the 26th was the first day of a 5-7 day business day window when our stuff could arrive. It didn’t but that was no surprise.
So it was a few days of sleeping on an air mattress and selecting from only a handful of outfits.
We stocked the built0in bar that came with the apartment. Bought some cheap Target cups to sip out of and spent our days exploring nearby restaurants and bars, laying out by the pool, meeting up with friends, trying margaritas with jalapeños (amazing, btw) and exploring the neighborhood.
It’s awesome. We can walk or bike pretty much anywhere we need to go. The Target (which is in walking distance) has a liquor aisle that looks exactly how you would think a Target liquor aisle would look. It. has. everything. (Our Targets in MD don’t sell alcohol.)
By the time I left on Sunday, we still had no furniture or pots or pans or dishes.
Towards the second week of July, I started urging fiancé to open the Bed, Bath, and Beyond boxes that were arriving for my bridal shower in the hope that he could find a pan to cook something other than Dino nuggets. He was pretty content with Dino nuggets though.
July 10th – the latest day in our 5-7 day window – came and went with no sign of furniture.
It was delayed a week.
It was delayed 2 weeks.
Do they even know where our stuff is? My dad made those dressers. I can’t lose them.
Thirty four days after they put our stuff on a truck, it arrived at our apartment in Denver. Fiancé is in the process of unpacking everything now. I’ll reorganize it when I go out there because…well, I want things my way. I mean…a way that works for both of us. 😉
